Welcome to the Plan Peters 2022: Our Community, Our Future!

What do you want Peters Township to be in 10 to 20 years? It seems like a pretty easy question to answer, right? But, when explored in more detail, this question seems to reproduce exponentially. What type of housing options must we provide for current and future residents? How do we balance new development and the preservation of “open space”? Is there a way to make Route 19 a more aesthetically pleasing environment or McMurray Town Center more inviting to local businesses and pedestrians? How do we mitigate traffic? So, how do communities begin to answer these questions? The answer is the Comprehensive Plan.

Peters Township is home to 21,213 people (2010 U.S. Census). In addition, many non-residents work, shop, recreate, or own businesses and/or property within the township. That is a lot of groups and individuals with varying (many times competing) perspectives, ideas, and opinions about what Peters Township should aspire to be in the next 10 years. But, even though ideas may differ at times, we all share one simple desire: to create a safe, resilient, and desirable community. The Comprehensive Plan is the community’s tool for asking important questions, like those above, and creating a community vision for what we want to be in the next 10-20 years.
